Does anybody know of a good reference that gives an honest appraisal
of the relative merits of ethanol. I admit to being pretty skeptical.

Thanks
Steve

Sorry
I must have been drinking to much ethanol when I posted this.

I meant ethanol used as a fuel. Specifically I’m interested in the
energy balance.

If I don’t get a lot of noise about the merits of drinking ethanol
I’ll be disappointed.

Hello

Mostly you can expect only 5000W/litre for energy, compared to
gasoline
which has 9000W/Litre. Compression ratio for ethanol can be very high,
ie
12:1 and higher, up to max of about 16:1. Makes for lots of horsepower
but
very little engine life and really poor idle..this is assuming you are
doing it
at 94% concentration, or 190proof.:-)
