Expecting the fall of civilization?
Fertilizer NPK for the garden.
Salt for preserving food.
Iodine tablets might useful for light fallout and in area inland and
thus
poor in iodine.
Pure vitamin supplement crystals and powders.
Vitamin C crystals without any other ingredients are very stable and
good to prevent scurvy during the winter if one can't get fresh
foods. Multiple vitamin tablets have too short a shelf life.
A large freezer supplied by an isolated power source.
Gasoline preserved with BHT
Soap is good though it is possible to make it.
Ammo and shotgun shells for game and varmits.
And though this isn't an answer to your question, I'll suggest
sheep, goats, chickens, horses, and cattle with huge feed
stores and shelter.
Seeds not hybrids but rather heirloom strains. Buckwheat and minor
crop (vegetables) as well as wheat, oats, barley, soy, alfalfa, and
corn depending on your
climate. Grape vines for vinegar and wine. Fruit trees especially
prunes
and plums. Various berry plants can be useful. Bee hives with bees.
Bleach or better yet calcium hypochlorite tabs should be good to treat
water
in a pinch.
Books.
Or perhaps you need a better solution? |

Drinking water probably deserves to be number 1!
Iodine water purifying tablets should be high up the list too (above
caustic and sulphuric acid). I can imagine domestic uses for caustic,
but I am a bit mystified why one might want sulphuric these days.
After that motor oil, liquid fuels like parafin, petrol, butane and
solid fuels like coal or charcoal in bulk.
Cement might not be a bad one either (or quicklime if you can get it).
Candles and matches although not strictly pure chemicals are very
useful. And a glyphosate formulation weedkiller.
Cling film, polythene bags and bottles are another less obvious chemical
product that would be handy in an emergency.
Regards,
Martin Brown
